MOUNTING OVERVIEW

The Freedom™ 500 comes with a universal fit kit which will permit installation in at least one mounting configuration in any sea kayak cockpit. Sea kayak cockpits vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, there is no standard cockpit. That is why we provide several different mounting configurations for the Freedom™ 500 system.

The Freedom™ 500 is easily installed in your sea kayak cockpit using the polycarbonate mounting plate and with the mini-cell foam and glue provided.

All configurations require a 7/8” hole to be drilled into the deck of the sea kayak to mount the thru-hull fitting for the pump exhaust. This is easily done by drilling a pilot hole with a drill bit of 3/8” to ½” in diameter. The pilot hole is then expanded with a ¼” or 3/8” round file or half round file to 7/8”.

The typical location for the thru-hull fitting is at the forward end of the cockpit and above the side seam (the side seam is the seam between the hull and the deck). This forward location permits the pump’s discharge flow of water to be easily seen and permits the pump to be shut off without running needlessly, thereby saving battery life. An alternative mounting location for the thru-hull fitting is behind the cockpit combing, either on the left or right side. Mounting the thru-hull fitting behind the cockpit combing is usually possible for configuration #2.

In all of the mounting configurations, the switch mounts inside the cockpit on the underside of the deck and in line with the deck bungee closest to the cockpit combing.

In all of the configurations, the switch magnet runs on the deck bungee directly over the switch.

We will be posting installations video soon, please check back and view the video.
